Social StudiesOur Class Charter
As a class assignment, the students must come together and create a class charter. The rights and responsibilities that are included in our charter MUST:
Step 1: For homework, come up with some rights and responsibilities of being in our classroom. For each one, you must include a logical reason why this is a ‘good’ right and come up with supporting evidence to prove that it should be included. Step 2: With a partner, discuss your list and see if the rights meet the previous criteria. Your partner will need to play the position of "Devil’s Advocate" to ensure your list of rights are logical and contain enough reasoning and support to be approved by the larger group. Step 3: Tweak any of the items on your list to ensure that they meet the criteria listed above. Step 4: Complete the form with a partner. See Mrs. Egan for this. Step 5: The class will then determine which rights and responsibilities will be included and the possible consequences of a right being taken away (as a way to mirror the legal system in Canada). Step 6: To determine what the final charter will include, the class will need to prepare for a debate on each of the rights. Each student must make sure they have generated a list of reasons why their right should be included and provide their supporting evidence. Step 7: We will then put the rights to vote. As a side note, some decisions are vetoed in order to maintain a positive solution to a problem and to ensure a healthy class climate. |
